Sean Emmons
Climate Data Scientist
Sean Emmons, Ph.D. is a Climate Data Scientist at Climate Central. In this role, he supports the development of seasonal to decadal climate risk research and products that will help end users better prepare for climate change at decision-relevant scales.
Dr. Emmons is broadly trained as a geographer and is interested in how climate and land use change impacts people and nature. He draws on tools and perspectives from climate adaptation, conservation and spatial planning, spatial data science, machine learning, and socio-ecology to better understand how ecosystems, water resources, and human perspectives are changing to help guide actionable decision making.
Dr. Emmons holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from PennWest California, a M.S. in Biology from Marshall University, and a PhD in Geography and Environmental Sustainability from the University of Oklahoma. In 2019, he was selected as a Science to Action Fellow with the US Geological Survey’s National Climate Adaptation Science Center. He enjoys native plant gardening, hiking, camping, and film photography in his free time.
