Niger’s capital city, Niamey, was hit with severe flooding during the final weekend of Ramadan. Thousands were left homeless and vital crops were destroyed. Just two weeks before, the country’s Dosso region was pelted with the equivalent of six months of rain during one night.

The consequences for that region were similar, displacing thousands of people and leaving them without food. To make matters worse, Niger was suffering from a severe drought that drastically affected the food supply. Many of the houses in the region are built from mud brick, making them useless again raging flood waters.
