Many companies are planning mass production of cellulosic biofuels

Thanks to a federal mandate for more renewable fuel production and the potential advantages of cellulosic fuels over corn-based ethanol, the interest in cellulosic biofuels has increased recently. A mid-2008 survey of press releases and trade journals conducted by Climate Central identified at least 25 companies with announced intentions to begin commercial production of cellulosic biofuels within the next two to five years. Most of these companies are already gaining experience with their technologies through operating smaller (non-commercial, pilot scale) plants.
