2012: Warmest March Ever Recorded
You knew it was warm last month, but today it’s official: For the U.S. as a whole, this was the warmest March on record, and a whopping 7 degrees above the normal March average. Record years like this can happen by chance, of course. But those chances are a lot higher than they used to be, now that greenhouse-gas emissions are measurably warming the planet.
These high temperatures are consistent with a clear warming trend across the country, where average temperatures have increased about 1.4 F since 1970.
