Image of the Day: Storms Soar Over the Sweltering City

Repost This

Inga Sarda Sorenson posted this remarkable photo on Twitter of Wednesday’s thunderstorms converging on New York City. Summer’s hot and humid weather fuels thunderstorms like the ones that battered the Northeast on Tuesday and Wednesday. Small hail even fell on Manhattan on Wednesday. Many cities across the Northeast reached record highs on Wednesday, with temperatures in New York City hitting 100°F, and 103°F in Newark, N.J. A cold front tapped into that warm and moisture-laden air, firing off lines of thunderstorms. On Wednesday, severe thunderstorm watches stretched across the U.S. in an uninterrupted line from Boston to Chicago.
