Image of the Day: An Idea Whose Time Has Come

A wonderfully creative invention -- kind of an old idea meets old idea -- cuts down both your waist size and carbon footprint. Though the emissions from small engines like those found in lawn mowers and chain saws may seem negligable, the EPA reports they in fact contribute as much as 5% of the nation's air pollution. And according to a study conducted in 2001, “Air pollution from cutting grass for an hour with a gasoline powered lawn mower is about the same as that from a 100-mile automobile ride.” On top of all that, lawn mowers emit high levels of carbon monoxide (CO), hyrdocarbons, volatile organic compounds (VOC) and other pollutants that are harmful to both people and the environment.
