Image of the Day: Freshwater Woes for Scenic Malta

Repost This

Malta is a country known to expereince the characteristic Mediterranean climate of damp, cool winters and hot, dry summers. But according to the climate change forecast maps published by the European Environmental Agency earlier this year, that characteristic summer climate may become a lot longer, hotter and drier.

As reported by the Times of Malta, the publication warns the Mediterranean may see rainfall decrease by as much as 15 percent by 2050 compared with 1960s figures. This is of particular concern to Malta,  given that most of their freshwater comes from rain-recharged groundwater acquifers.
