Image of the Day: Ancient Trees Breathing Filthy Air
The sequoias of the California redwood forests are truly remarkable plants that can live for up to 1,800 years and their highest branches could touch the top of a 40-story building.
These aren’t the only superlatives to which the sequoias can lay claim. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, the national parks where these enormous trees live, have higher levels of air pollution than any other American national park. According to the Huffington Post, the levels of smog in these parks are so high that sometimes visitors are not allowed to explore the stunning forests and the workplace is deemed unhealthy for National Park Service employees.
