Republish Our Content (Yes It’s That Easy)
At Climate Central, we give you the ability to take our original content and spread it around. That means if you’re a media organization who’d like to syndicate our content, a teacher wanting to use our graphics or videos in your classroom, or a blogger who wants to feature one of our studies on your blog — we support you! We want to help make sharing our content as easy as possible.
The Basics (see full legal terms and disclosure below)
DO
- Feel free to republish any of Climate Central’s original videos, graphics, maps, animations, blogs or news stories created or written by Climate Central, in its original form. Infographics may be republished online as well, but for print publication you must seek prior permission.
- Always cite Climate Central on anything you republish. When you post our content, please include a link to our website at www.climatecentral.org. (Better yet, include a link back to the url where the content first appeared).
- Shoot us an email with any questions if you’re unsure of something. You can reach us at republish@climatecentral.org, and we promise to get back to you ASAP.
DON’T
- Don’t republish content that appears on our site, but is originally from third party sources. Climate Central syndicates content occasionally from Daily Climate and KQED, among others. We have our own relationships and agreements with all of the outside content providers we work with. If you find a story from a third party on our site that you’d like to republish, you’ll have to talk to them.
- Don’t republish any photos from our site, unless they are credited to Climate Central staff. We pay for and license our own artwork and photos here at Climate Central from many different sources.
- Don’t sell our stuff without prior permission. Period.
- Don’t edit our stuff without prior permission. Period.
- Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. There are real people who work at Climate Central, and we’re happy to try and help you out.
These are just the basics – for a more detailed breakdown of our content sharing and republishing policies, see the legal language below. Happy sharing!
Content Licensing
Climate Central encourages you under this “Content Licensing” policy to republish in whole (but not edited) certain articles, graphics and videos (“Content”) that are available on the following sections of the Site so long as Climate Central is credited, including a link to the Climate Central website (http://www.climatecentral.org).
The Content that is subject to this Content Licensing policy is the Content in the following sections of the Site as further limited below:
- Gallery section: any Content, including graphics, maps or animations, in this section of the Site.
- Breaking section: any blogs or articles not marked as or otherwise reasonably understood to be provided by a third party (e.g. The Daily Climate). However, associated images in this section are covered by this Content Licensing policy and are not republishable unless they also appear in Gallery, or are marked with a copyright from Climate Central.
- Videos section: any videos specifically marked and made available for download as republishable.
- Library section: any FAQs or Feature subsection Content.
- Climopedia: any Content.
However, the limited license expressed above to republish certain Climate Central Content is expressly contingent on your not editing or reselling such Content or otherwise using such Content in a commercial manner (although using such Content on media on which advertisements appear is not considered a commercial use so long as the ads are not targeted to such Content) without the express written permission of Climate Central.
The Site also contains content belonging to or originating from persons or organizations other than Climate Central (“Third Party Content”), some of which is available under Creative Commons licenses, including the license available at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/us/. We try and identify the source of the Third Party Content so that you may republish and otherwise use the Third Party Content in accordance with the license terms offered by its owners. However, your use of Third Party Content is subject to such terms as are imposed by such third party licensors and Climate Central does not provide any warranty or guarantee whatsoever about the terms of Third Party Content. We would be happy to answer your questions regarding the license rights available for Climate Central’s articles, graphics and videos and the source of Third Party Content so as to facilitate you republishing of this content. For licensing questions, please contact Climate Central's Managing Editor for Online Content, Andrew Freedman. Requests from commercial entities for uses beyond the scope of the free license offered above will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Climate Central's content licensing policy is subject to change.
