Climate Central is a hybrid science and media non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide factual information to help the public and policymakers make sound choices about climate change.

By using, browsing or accessing our web site located at http://www.climatecentral.org (the “Site”) and the services offered on the Site (collectively with the Site, the “Services”), you agree to be bound by Climate Central’s Privacy Policy, as in effect at the time you access the Site. Climate Central is committed to protecting your privacy. What information we collect

We have developed our Site so that you can visit it without identifying yourself or revealing any personal information. You will, however, have to provide personal information to register with Climate Central. Climate Central collects personally identifying data only if volunteered by you. Climate Central may periodically ask you to provide personally identifying information such your name, postal address, email address and other information about you. Specifically, Climate Central collects such information from you when (a) you register to use the Site and (b) when you sign up to receive email, press releases or other information.

What we do with the information you provide

Climate Central uses the information we collect from you to respond to your requests and provide you with information about Climate Central. Climate Central may share your information with our service providers and successors. Aside from this, we will never rent, sell or otherwise share your personal data with other organizations for commercial purposes unless you otherwise agree. We may disclose personally identifiable information when required by law or when we have a good faith belief that a release is appropriate to protect our rights or property.

Climate Central uses Google Analytics to analyze traffic on the Site. Google Analytics uses cookies to store your login and logout information. A cookie is a tiny text file that is stored on your computer. When you visit the Site, we only access the cookie file that we have stored on your computer.

How we protect the security of your information

We have appropriate security measures in place in our physical facilities to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of information that we have collected from you at our Site. However, no data transmitted over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Therefore, you provide us with this data at your own risk. Our databases are located in the United States. If you are located outside of the U.S., by sending us your data you consent to its transfer to and storage within the United States. 

Children’s privacy

Climate Central does not knowingly ask children 13 and under for any information. Visitors who are 13 or under should ask a parent or legal guardian for assistance when using the Site and should not submit any personally identifiable information.

Links to other websites

Climate Central provides links to third party websites, and other websites may link to our Site. Climate Central does not endorse, nor is it responsible for the content of any third-party websites we may list on the Site. Other websites that are linked to our Site may have different policies and thus you will need to review the privacy notices on those websites for details.

How to unsubscribe, opt out, or correct your information

If you do not want to receive e-mail from us in the future or to request that Climate Central not share your information as explained in this Privacy Policy, please let us know by sending an e-mail to info@climatecentral.org. How we notify you about Privacy Policy changes

The effective date of this Privacy Policy is November 20, 2009. This Privacy Policy may be amended by Climate Central any time by posting such amendments on this Site, and your continued use constitutes acceptance of those amendments.

Content Licensing

Climate Central encourages you under this “Content Licensing” policy to republish in whole (but not edited) certain articles, graphics and videos (“Content”) that are available on the following sections of the Site so long as Climate Central is credited, including a link to the Climate Central website (http://www.climatecentral.org).

The Content that is subject to this Content Licensing policy is the Content in the following sections of the Site as further limited below:

Gallery section: any Content, including graphics, maps or animations, in this section of the Site.
Breaking section: any blogs or articles not marked as or otherwise reasonably understood to be provided by a third party (e.g. The Daily Climate). However, associated images in this section are covered by this Content Licensing policy and are not republishable unless they also appear in Gallery, or are marked with a copyright from Climate Central.
Videos section: any videos specifically marked and made available for download as republishable.

However, the limited license expressed above to republish certain Climate Central Content is expressly contingent on your not editing or reselling such Content or otherwise using such Content in a commercial manner (although using such Content on media on which advertisements appear is not considered a commercial use so long as the ads are not targeted to such Content) without the express written permission of Climate Central.

The Site also contains content belonging to or originating from persons or organizations other than Climate Central (“Third Party Content”), some of which is available under Creative Commons licenses, including the license available at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/us/. We try and identify the source of the Third Party Content so that you may republish and otherwise use the Third Party Content in accordance with the license terms offered by its owners. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Climate Central, its affiliates and their respective directors, officers, trustees, employees, independent contractors and agents from and against any losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or relating to any claim, suit, judgment, or proceeding brought or asserted by any third party arising out of or relating to (a) your violation of these Terms of Use or the rights of any other user, (b) your use of the Services, (c) any information submitted or transmitted by you through the Services, (d) your transmission of computer viruses, worms, harmful program routines or other similar items into the Site, or (e) your use of the Services to access, without authorization, any other computer or machine. Climate Central shall have sole control over any such defense.

Governing Law

These Terms of Use shall be governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflicts of law provisions.

Miscellaneous

These Terms of Use contain the entire terms between the parties. In the event any provision of these Terms of Use is held to be illegal, invalid or unenforceable, then such provision shall be severed from these Terms of Use while the remaining terms shall remain binding on the parties hereto. Climate Central's failure to exercise or enforce any right or provision of the Terms of Use shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. You agree that regardless of any statute or law to the contrary, any claim or cause of action brought by you arising out of or related to the use of the Services, or specified in these Terms of Use, must be filed within one (1) year after such claim or cause of action arose, or shall be forever barred.
